Aijie Han has been involved in community and social activities since moved in San Diego. She joined in a UCSD campus charitable group, Still Thoughts Association (STA), and volunteered many activities to reach out the community, such as beach cleanup, visits to Senior House and Healthcare Center at downtown San Diego. She served as session Chair and symposium organizer at American Chemical Society (ACS) and Materials Research Society (MRS) national meetings, and served as a panelist for several National Science Foundation (NSF) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) programs. She has been involved in the activities of SDAAFE since 2014. She has the passion to work on promoting active involvement in public affairs and social issues in our community.

Alex Hu has been living in San Diego since 1998. In last twenty-five years Alex has been serving various financial institutions, both in China and U.S, from Bank of China to Bank of America, and other regional commercial banks. Alex graduated from Nanjing University, Nanjing, China, in English Languages & English Literature major, in 1992. He obtained his MBA from University of Phoenix in San Diego in 2001, and certificate on master level program for senior officers in banking, from Pacific Coast Banking School, Seattle, WA, in 2008. Besides his professional banking career mainly in commercial banking and business lending to support local businesses, Alex devoted himself into various social and community services, including a five-year term with Citizen’s Oversight Committee, San Diego Community College District, from 2007 through 2012, supervising $1.55 billion construction funding to renovate 3 community college campuses and one continuing education center, under SD Prop. S & Prop. N. Alex is an active Rotarian, Paul Harris Fellow, with over six year’s board service including two-term presidency with Rotary Club of Kearny Mesa, since 2012. As a board member also treasurer, Alex is responsible for book keeping, banking, general financial oversight, and financial reporting of SDAAFE.

Dr. Joan Chen received her Ph.D in Biology from University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). Passionate about science, Dr. Joan Chen has devoted lots of her time to promote science education in the San Diego region. She was the head coach of the Carmel Valley Middle School Science Olympiad team for two years, and now serves in the San Diego Regional Science Olympiad steering committee. In addition to the science field, Joan has also been actively involved in community service, working with organizations such as the San Diego Coastkeeper to do beach-cleanups, participating in the San Diego Asian Youth Organization (SDAYO) and Pan Pacific Law Enforcement Association’s 8th annual Rice Drive, and participating in Torrey Hills Elementary school’s 7/11 planning. Joan strongly advocates and wishes to promote more involvement of Chinese Americans in public affairs during her term in SDAAFE.

Ms. Li has been a resident of the San Diego County since the year 2000.
Before, she worked as a legal consultant at a law firm and lead the sections of Asian businesses and market development in Ohio. She was one of the pioneers and leaders of a nationwide campaign from 1998 to 2000. This campaign helped thousands of China and India born professionals receive their permanent residency status in the US.
After Ms. Li moved to San Diego, she was consistently active in local community services. Ms. Li was the Chairwoman of the Community of Chinese New Year fair, located in downtown San Diego in 2001. Currently, she is also serving as a board member of the National Council of Chinese Americans.
Ms. Li received her BA in China and attended an MBA program at CSU.

Frank Xu is a social activist and one of the co-founders of SDAAFE. He commits his time and effort to the community since late 2013. After organizing several rallies against the discrimination towards Chinese community, he realizes that the only way to empower the community is to serve and get involved. He was a board member of Educational Technology Advisory Committee and Budget Review Advisory Committee in Poway Unified School District. He also serves as a board member in La Jolla Presidents’ Lions Club and his own home owner association.

Nelson Zhang is a social activist and one of the co-founders of SDAAFE. He commits his time and effort to the community since late 2013. He has organized several rallies with more than 500 people to join. He volunteers in La Jolla Presidents’ Lions Club and other organizations.
